A Practical Course for Aspiring Facilitators

1. What is Training?

Training is a planned process of learning that aims to improve people’s knowledge, skills, and attitudes to perform tasks more effectively. It can be delivered in classrooms, workplaces, or online, and may involve hands-on practice, discussions, or simulations.

In simple words: training helps people learn how to do their jobs better.

2. Why is Training Important?

  • Improves skills and knowledge – Learners become more confident and capable.

  • Increases productivity – Employees or learners complete tasks more effectively and efficiently.

  • Boosts motivation and morale – Training shows investment in people, which makes them feel valued.

  • Ensures consistency and safety – Everyone follows the same procedures and standards.

  • Supports growth and adaptability – Learners are prepared for new roles, technologies, and challenges.

In short: Training builds competence, confidence, and continuous improvement.

3. Common Process Involved in Providing Training

Training usually follows a structured cycle or steps such as:

  1. Needs Analysis – Identify the skills gaps or problems that require training.

  2. Set Learning Objectives – Define what learners should achieve by the end.

  3. Design the Training – Plan content, methods, and activities.

  4. Prepare Materials and Resources – Create handouts, slides, or equipment.

  5. Deliver Training – Facilitate the session using suitable methods (lectures, workshops, role-plays, etc.).

  6. Evaluate Training – Measure effectiveness through feedback, assessments, or observation.

  7. Follow-Up/Improve – Adjust the training program based on results and future needs.
